A Kraken Good Feast After the Storm!
After weathering the mighty wrath of Cyclone Alfred, when most of Mullum lay in a post-tempest slumber, The Empire Café stood tall—like a gallant galleon refusing to sink! Open on a Sunday, no less. True champions of the storm.
We staggered in, weary sailors, stomachs grumbling louder than the winds that had howled through the night. But lo! A beacon of gluten free culinary salvation awaited. A chilli scramble, bold and fiery as a pirate's last stand; a halloumi and egg roll so gloriously golden, it could’ve been part of The Empire’s royal treasury. And the coffee—liquid gold fit for an emperor (or at least a very smug, crown-wearing sloth).
After days of rations and cyclone supplies, this was the feast we needed. No need to venture to the ends of the shire—The Empire Café remains the undefeated champion in the battle against hunger.
Raise the flag, mates, and set sail for The Empire!
I’d drive an hour from the Gold Coast just to enjoy another lunch here. Seriously delicious! And what a treat to have gluten free dumplings!! Thank you so much
An exceptional experience!
Went to enjoy an Italian bistro, and from start to finish, the team at Rosettas delivered. Top quality food, matched by warm, friendly and knowledgeable service.
The owner Manu is humble, passionate, hands-on and detail orientated. It shows through ever corner of this authentic bistro and the team of detail driven service staff.
The menu is authentic, wide ranging, shareable, well priced and has something for every diet and appetite. Complimented by a beautiful wine list, cocktails and non alcoholics. The coffee is exceptional, as is the traditionally made gelato.
This is the kind of place you can go back to time and time again. There are so many delicious things to choose, all full of great value.
I am also coeliac and was not left short handed or concerned.
Truly genuine hospitality!
Bravo!
The best food outside of Japan! Family of 4 absolutely loved it. Seriously fresh and delicious. Friendly service and catered easily to kids and gluten free. Thank you. We’ll be back!
We stopped by here for a special family birthday dinner again. We were seated outside & it was quite serene & peaceful with plants making us feel we were in a garden. Especially the moon arch. I was so happy they added a bar & we could order cocktails & wine from since we were last here. The cocktails were divine! Another reason to come back.
The dishes were all so big with generous amounts that I was so surprised to see. We had one waiter looking after our big group outside. The curries were filled with coconut goodness & lot’s of fresh toppings. The fried fish was very tasty eaten along with their special fish sauce & I recommend the salads too. The entrees were very generous as well. I was so happy that the service was really good especially for our big group.
I love the decor, the Beautiful chandler light right near the bar area, the little Vietnamese ornaments & the beautiful story about the owner of the business & her family. You don’t see that much in restaurants these days. It’s nice to know they are a small family run business & trying to make a life in the shire & bring tasty & affordable Vietnamese food to a small town such as Mullumbimby. It certainly is very rare & unique. Good on them.
We found all staff extra smiley & super friendly. I wonder if it’s the air or the great food they get to eat?
Each dish we tried was highly recommended as there was so much to choose from. None disappointed, except we only wanted to order more. So much choices for vegan, vegetarian, & gluten free which is not common for Vietnamese food. So it seems the owners here are catering very well to the needs of the community & their customers.
We all rolled out of there with the last serving of a few desserts. Best one was a Vietnamese tiramisu and was mopped up leaving nothing left to clean in the cup. It was with mascarpone, lady finger biscuits dipped in Vietnamese coffee, coconut and mint & rose - divine. Definitely a must try & save your tummy for. Loved seeing you again Pink Lotus Eatery - Mullumbimby. So excited you opened another in Brunswick Heads. Will check it out soon too 🩷🩷💝💝.

A great place to meet friends, have an amazing adaptogenic hot chocolate, local gluten free pies, or shop for groceries.
I like their supply of self-serve bulk nuts and seeds, they generally have what you are looking for :)

You will see from my reviews that I like a good pie. After the average pie from Uncle Toms, this place was a huge step up My Thai curry chicken was rather special - great pastry, tender chicken chunks and green curry sauce with a medium kick. They are a reasonable size for an economical $6. Lots of varieties including vego and gluten free for those that need it Mexican vego and curried lentil look good. Friendly service too which Mullum is famous for
