Ended up in Sale at lunchtime and found this Cafe on Google. Vegetarian teenager and I had the smashed avocado, and hubby had the special of the day. All enjoyed it. Good size serves, not tiny but not huge.
Got a cake each to take away as they had gluten free options.
We sat outside due to having our dog with us, service was great, coffee fantastic and the meal really topped it off. My wife had the breaky wrap and loved it, I had a onezy breakfast with gluten free bread which was cooked perfectly. Thankyou
Ordered a pizza and burger and wow it tasted delicious, you can tell the ingredients we're fresh and made with love. Lots of vegan and gluten free options. And their coffee wow yummy thank you!
Booking a table for 30 people at the Star Hotel in Sale felt like a logistical nightmare—dietary restrictions, last-minute no-shows, and one vegan who “forgot to mention” their preferences until arrival. But the staff? Absolute legends. They rearranged seating on the fly, handled substitutions without batting an eye, and even kept the chaos to a dull roar.
Now, the star of the show: the yellow curry with tofu. As a vegetarian, I’m used to being handed bland, token veggie options, but this dish was a revelation. The curry itself was a symphony of flavors—creamy coconut, zesty lemongrass, and a gentle heat that built with every bite. The tofu? Crispy on the outside, silky inside, and soaked up the sauce like a flavor sponge. It’s rare to find a pub that treats plant-based dishes with this much care, and I’d argue it’s better than most tofu curries I’ve had at dedicated Asian restaurants.
The rest of the group raved about their meals too—classic pub staples like steak and bangers were devoured, and even the gluten-free diners got proper plates (no sad salads here). Portions were huge, service was lightning-fast despite our crowd, and the vibe stayed lively without tipping into chaos.
Special shoutout to the team for accommodating our herd of 30 with humor and efficiency. They even split bills without the usual apocalyptic sighing.
If you’re coordinating a big group (or just want a curry that’ll make tofu skeptics rethink their lives), the Star Hotel is a winner.
If you are looking for vegan/plant-based options in Sale then this little gem is the place to visit. Slices, sandwiches and curries are available with vegan, gluten-free or keto options. Great coffee and friendly staff too.
Great fish & chips 😋
We ordered grilled fish and battered fish, chips, dimmies, garlic ball and nuggets.
All very delicious, crunchy chips, and they even cater gluten free grilled fish, gluten free chips (fried in oil with all other food so not completely gluten free)
Great service and very friendly staff.
Delicious ice cream with generous amount.
I love the way that they clarified the ingredients (gluten, alcohol, or anything that may cause allergic reactions) to ensure the customer is fully aware. This level of responsibility is admirable.
Best burger in 40 years. Just tasted like I was transported back to the good old days. Quality ingredients and the beetroot is the bomb.
Service was excellent in bending over backwards to cater for our gluten free needs too.
We live in Sydney and will now always pop this place into our southerly trips.
