I ordered a custom carrot cake for my wife’s birthday. The chef and owner were kind enough to process an expedited order with a 5 day delivery. The cake was fantastic! All our guests took leftovers of the cake back home. They even make gluten free cakes, which we will be trying soon!

If you are gluten free, this restaurant is an incredibly helpful place to eat if you love good food. Our waiter already knew exactly how to prepare a celiac-friendly meal for my good friend, made an excellent margarita with in-house freshly squeezed limes, and the food itself was fantastic. Highly recommend!

I got the gluten-free pizza and was very impressed. Fresh ingredients all around. The staff was kind and helpful. I was able to sit on the outdoor patio and enjoy the sun during the afternoon. This is a close walk to everything in Old Town. I want to come back sometime soon for the pasta. This is an old school Chicago tradition and now I realize why it’s been around for years.

Update: the owner reached out and was apologetic about my subpar experience. I really appreciate that kind of customer service. It’s clear she is passionate about her business and wants all patrons to have a great experience. Wish I could try it again! Review rating updated as an average of the food and customer service. Original post: We went here on a Friday morning and it was packed, a good sign! We ended up getting our orders for takeout (ordered at the inside counter) and waited outside for about 30 minutes. Which was totally fine with us and I don’t hold the wait time against them. It’s clearly a popular place! However I was quite unimpressed with the food. I ordered a latte with their homemade date milk (the upcharge made this very expensive) and a breakfast sandwich that tasted like an egg McMuffin. There was barely any of the sauce on there and it was super greasy. The hash brown I ordered was also just like McDonald’s even served in a little sack and I didn’t love that either. They also have gluten free bread and the guy taking my order at the inside counter said I could order it on the side but couldn’t substitute it for the bread on a sandwich. What’s the point of ordering gluten free if it comes with gluten anyway? Maybe I should’ve pivoted my order at that point. I will say the staff member behind the takeout counter outside was extremely friendly and courteous and handled a busy morning with a smile on her face. I wish I would’ve caught her name but we visited on March 14 so props to her for being so kind during chaos! I give it 3 stars because while I did not find my food or drink to be exceptional, it wasn’t extremely awful either, it was just average. If I lived in Chicago I would give it a second chance to redeem itself.
