My family and I came here for breakfast and loved it. It is almost 100% gluten free excited for the whey oats they use in their porridge. It is all plant based so I thought my young kids might not like it but everything we ordered we all devoured. Perfect breakfast place for celiacs.
I always go to duck island at least once a week and never thought to leave a review. Out of all my times here, today was the best one! Thanks to Cordell. Such a genuine person who actually recommended stuff I’ve never had before.
The gluten free cone yall?!! Actually phenomenal (I’m not allergic to gluten).
Thank you heaaaps Cordell.
My boyfriend & I had a lovely dining experience here recently.
Our waitress Hannah was so attentive to our dietary restrictions (Coeliac) and it was clear she genuinely cared.
The same goes for the talented chefs in the kitchen, who were super patient and understanding and took the Coeliacs/gluten allergy very seriously.
Thank you all for making this such a lovely date night for us! We’ll definitely be back.
Blown away by how many Gluten Free items are available.
Normally you get a huge cabinet that contains gluten then a really small one next to it with a couple of GF options.
Here is the opposite.
GF sweet treats (at least 6 to choose from)
GF sandwiches (on awesome bread)
GF risotto cakes
GF pizza breads
GF frittata & tarts
GF salad options
Topped with awesome coffee & service.
Incredibly well-managed and very good service at a locally-owned restaurant that truly knows their stuff with keto, coeliac-safe, low FODMAP and other nutritional needs. In two years of living locally and eating here monthly or at least quarterly, we’ve never had a problem with an order nor a bad experience.
Finally a Cafe that caters for allergies! Specifically for me, most of the menu could be catered as gluten free and I wasn't disappointed. The menu was varied, not just the normal Cafe staples which was so refreshing and the staff were lovely. A lovely lunch on my last day in New Zealand. One happy tourist and if I were a local I'd be a regular. 😁
Food was amazing! I wish I'd remembered to take some photos. The only let down was service was a little slow- as in getting drinks initially and then the tables weren't cleared at all...but the food came out quickly and I'd go back again simply for the food options! 4 of us are coeliac and there were so many dishes that were either gluten free or could be modified for us 😍
If someone is giving out awards The Shelf should get one. Amazing food and great value. Fast service. Lots of gluten free choices that made me happy. Our go to cafe when we visit Auckland city.
One of my go-to cafes with my partner – we’ve been here so many times and it never disappoints!
The gluten-free bagel is absolutely delicious – great texture and flavour.
But the highlight has to be the waffle fried chicken with honey sriracha syrup… sweet, spicy, crispy – just perfect.
Everything looks as good as it tastes – definitely a great spot if you love taking food pics 📸
friendly service, and tasty food every time. Highly recommended!

One of my absolute favourite spots for coffee, dinner, lunch, drinks. Good for vegans and gluten free and the most wonderful staff. I adore going in for a chat and they always are so welcoming! The sangria is great to share and the soup and hummus platter have the most amazing flavours and good for sharing!
What a little gem! They have a number of Gluten Free dishes, which attracted me to try them in the first place. Food was absolutely delicious, staff super friendly and service was quick.
Plenty of parking at rear, off Moselle Ave.
This will definitely now be my "go to" local cafe.
Such amazing hospitality, they ran out of gluten free bread and had someone go out and get me some, thank you for a delicious meal team! Will be coming back :)
Excellent food and drinks. Nice vibe. Very friendly staff. Food is very healthy, all freshly made and so yummie. They are vegetarian but lots of their dishes are vegan or can be made vegan. As far as I saw there are also many glutenfree options. I hope I can visit again sometime.
Great little spot in Pukekohe, fantastic cabinet food and menu items. I love how you take a seat and they come take your order. Accommodating when questioning ingredient items and they do amazing raw, vegan, gluten free and keto options, not heaps, but enough so you have a choice. I had the Creamy Market Mushrooms minus the toast, and a large coconut milk coffee over ice. Both amazing, and so many mushrooms I could not finish. I also got a takeaway ginger slice and macadamia slice.
Ok I’ve passed this place 1,000s of times but have never eaten here. Man I’ve been sleeping because it’s sooo delicious.
I ordered the fried chicken poke bowl that was already gluten free, because I cannot pass up on gluten free fried chicken. UGH this was delicious. The sweet sauce they had on it, the half avo, the generous ginger, the chicken was crunchy. Could’ve had more rice, but overall, so delicious.
We sat outside in the sun which was lovely, and sheltered from the wind. My daughter enjoyed the little playground down below. We also ordered fries on the side that were crunchy and delicious.
Cabinet food also looked good - mainly sweet stuff and a lovely Carmel gluten free slice. But I was too full to order it.
Would come again 10/10.

I ordered the T.A.B on a gluten free bagel and I liked it so much that I visited their location in the Auckland airport before my flight to try another one of their creations.
Terrific serving sizes and great food with a variety of Mediterranean favorites. Prices are at the higher end - almost $40 for a tagine - but flavors are great and you're not going to leave hungry. They also do doggy bag take home boxes if you can't finish it. 🤣
My dining partner eats gluten free and commented that there's heaps on the menu if you're unable to eat gluten, which is great to know!
Been there twice over the last few months, always great service and very delicious creative food options aswell as decent (iced) coffee.
Also a good selection of delicious Gluten- free meals and desserts. I highly recommend trying their sweet Buckwheat waffles and the vanilla cheesecake. 👌 I also like their outside tables on the sidewalk beside a quiet street, at least on the weekends. Prices and quality match.
I recommend trying it out yourself ☺️
Cheers
Gareth the waiter was absolutely wonderful, he really put us at ease in the environment and was amazing with my coeliac disease. The escargot was great! Thanks so much for a great night chefs and Gareth, you were great and deserve a hefty raise!
I love this cafe! What I am most impressed by is their range of gluten free food available in the cabinet. Instead of the usual standard options - either a brownie or an orange cake, they have different slices and even a cheesecake on offer. Their coffee is also really good. The service was lovely and the interior and exterior is a nice all-round vibe. Love this little gem and always make a visit when I'm in Devonport.
Amazing food and service. My 3 children have all got Coeliac Disease and they were so accommodating with the menu for them. The food was delicious and the staff are always so friendly and happy. Coffee is excellent to.
Love JUST LIKE MARTHA!!! Each time we visit they have more on the menu that caters for gluten free and other food allergies. They are always happy to make variations on meals. The food tastes awesome! The staff friendly and helpful! It’s a busy cafe for good reason! Love that it’s walking distance from our house!
This place is amazing for gluten free baking. I think not suitable for celiac but if you're just intolerant it's the best place in Auckland. Coffee is nice, service is always friendly too.
WOW!! If you happen to be a foodie looking for the best of flavours and quality and service this is definitely the Cafe for you. My yummy wife agrees that 'The creamy mushrooms and bacon' are a 20 out of 10 and all the meals are so well presented and delicious and really top class. Clark is the Superchef and together with his very own "Lois Lane," who is the darlingest hostess, they will make your heart and your tummy very warm and content. Even the gluten free options are really lovely and if you are looking for excellent coffee, look no further! We gave it 5 stars 'cause that's all that's available. I don't usually give reviews......BUT MAN, CHECK THIS OUT.. YOU WILL ENJOY A TREAT! DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR. Ian and Sue
Great coffee, really interesting menu with good gluten free options. I had the fried chicken eggs bene, was really yum. Good attentive and quick service.
Very limited gluten free menu.
I found the traffic lights 🚦 at the entrance oppressive.
They remind me of when the Government wanted us to bow to the tyrannical covid pass regulations.
Also what’s with the LGBT friendly business? Why not Christian friendly or Muslim friendly?
The food is absolutely amazing and they also have a lot of gluten free options and they even made me and my partner something that wasn’t even on the menu! I 100% recommend this…I will definitely be coming back for more

What a lucky find, wonderful French restaurant tucked away from the crowd. A warm welcome from the owner and his staff even when it was a busy evening (and a busy morning when we returned for breakfast another day). A jolly, warm atmosphere of everyone enjoying the superb food on offer, happily there are gluten free and vegetarian options and warm fresh french bread for cleaning up my plate of every morsel. We'll definitely make a special effort to return on our next trip to Auckland. Thank you to you, your wonderful staff and chefs.
