Julia made this an incredible experience! I am so grateful for Julia and The Mule, as a celiac and anaphylactic to Peanuts and Tree Nuts, my time finding restaurants that I feel truly safe is rare. This was the first place in Canada where I felt that safety to just explore the menu, relax, and enjoy. Everyone that came to our table was kind, informed, and awesome! Also the food IS AMAZING! Best tacos I’ve had in Ontario. Thank you again to Julia and the team for making a memorable meal and amazing experience. Will be coming back to Hamilton just for The Mule!

We had a great birthday lunch at this location. As a Celiac I always appreciate the dedicated fryer. Our server Ashley was fantastic. Very funny, very attentive, and surprised our son with a dessert. She even noticed my husband’s beer didn’t look quite right and replaced it. Will definitely come back to this location.

One of my new favourite spots! I've visited twice now & love it...food is soooo good & service is excellent. I'm celiac & love all the gluten free options - chowder is outstanding, awesome fish & chips & great desserts. Can't wait to return & try more menu items. And shout out to Delaney who served our table on our last visit - one of the best servers we've ever had! Thank you Pinbones for so many amazing gluten free options!

First visit for brunch with friends and it was very disappointing...no coffee because their coffee machine was not working. The menu and reservation form indicates they have gluten free options and yet they had no gluten free bread/buns, so my eggs benny came without an English muffin. Overall, not a great experience.

Food was meh this time. Wings were tough, rubbery. Fries were not crispy. What's wrong with the blue cheese dip? It's the oddest grey colour. Potato skins were alright.
I do like that there's a gluten free fryer and a few decent options for gluten free "pub fare" but this time we were underwhelmed. We probably sont hurry back.

I want to support Sarah Theaker’s review and share that I had a similarly concerning experience at this restaurant.
First, I’ll start with the positives: the food tasted great, and the quality of ingredients seemed fresh. However, the portion sizes were on the smaller side for the price, and the overall atmosphere felt awkward — the space is tight, and it almost felt like the staff were watching us throughout the entire meal, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience.
More importantly, I was there during the same visit as Sarah, and I witnessed the interaction with the server. She clearly asked whether the battered fish tacos were gluten-free and confirmed it with the staff before ordering. It wasn’t just a vague dietary preference — she made a point to clarify her needs. The menu also showed the “GF” (gluten-free) symbol beside both the pan-seared and battered taco options, which is incredibly misleading. If only one version is gluten-free, it’s dangerous and irresponsible to label both that way. The error wasn’t hers — it was a breakdown in training and labeling that could seriously affect someone’s health.
It’s incredibly frustrating to see the response from management trying to shift blame by saying she “didn’t explicitly mention an allergy.” When your menu already labels an item as gluten-free, that’s a representation of safety and accuracy, and customers should be able to trust that. Especially when staff confirm it.
For someone with celiac disease, ingesting gluten isn’t a minor inconvenience — it’s a medical condition that can cause intense symptoms for days or even months. Dismissing this as a misunderstanding minimizes the severity of what happened.
I hope the restaurant reflects seriously on this issue, retrains their staff, and corrects their menu to avoid putting other people in harm’s way. Sarah was not overreacting — she was holding the restaurant accountable for a real health risk.
