The Fish Shack food is second to none in Canberra. If you are Vegan, gluten free or have other severe food allergies as well (me!) you can feel safe in ordering food here! The staff at The Fish Shack should be very proud of the food they prepare. The oil is always clean and clearly changed often ,and the gluten free food cooked completely separately from the rest. My family and I have been eating here regularly for a couple of years and EVERY SINGLE ORDER has been faultless. I've not found anywhere else in Civic cooking gluten free chips and other her food in separate oil fryers as The Fish Shack do. I live on the North side of canberra and my allergies are so severe I tend to carry food from home whenever Im out ... UNLESS i plan to order from The Fish Shack. This is the only place for Fish/Seafood and chips I could recommend for someone with severe food allergies. Or on a Vegan diet. Did I mention the seafood is always fresh and DELICIOUS!? The food is not expensive for the freshness and quality you receive, it is never a long wait and there is a covered outside space to eat if you don't want to sit amongst the trees and (pigeons!) in Petrie Plaza.

The Bare Betty is the best gluten free burger ever! Super delicious (it may have some gluten but great for my low fodmap diet). Great service from Harry too!

I went on an obviously busy night, and found out later that they were understaffed, but it was an absolutely lovely evening, excellent service, amazing food, and the staff were kind and knowledgeable. They were also very careful when it came to allergens, which is important to me as a coeliac. Had an amazing night!

Vrn’s service was superb. My mum has coeliac disease so he ran her through all her gluten free options, specifying which would/should be better or worse, and organised her to have mash as a side because the chips weren’t gluten free and she didn’t want the salad. Beyond that, he was apologetic about the wait, attentive throughout the night, and always smiling.

Service was really great, I accidentally forgot to order a gluten free meal but they replaced the glutinous meal at no cost to me, which was really really generous and kind of them. Downside was that I wanted to order the Fonda Fried Chicken burrito but they had run out of fried chicken (at lunchtime??) so I chose to get the shiitake mushroom quesadilla instead which had so much flavour, so I had no regrets. The passionfruit and ginger soda was also an unexpectedly good drink, so do try it if you pay a visit.

Boy am I glad that we decided to give Bar Beirut a go. The owner is absolutely lovely and it’s clear that this restaurant is the product of love and a deep-seated passion for food. Everything is pure class - the food, the staff, the vibes. Not to mention they were awesome catering for coeliac. For meals of this quality I would honestly expect to be paying a lot more anywhere else. Dish pick of the night would have to be the lamb shank - the owner informed me that it’s his Mum’s recipe too :) Also excellent were the Kofta and the Charred Chicken. Highly recommend, we will be back!

A work colleague too me to courgette because it’s a great place for him to get a coeliac friendly meal. I also have a lot of food intolerances, so i was a it nervous going to such a fancy place as they often don’t want to alter meals. To my delight, there was selections on the 3 course lunch that I could eat with minimal alterations. All dishes were delightful. As with most fancy places - don’t come expecting massive meals, but they’re very very tasty. It’s very quiet, so great for having a business conversation. Would definitely Go back if I was living in Canberra.
