I recently had the pleasure of visiting Urban Forest Bistro in Duncan, BC, and I couldn't be more impressed. As someone with dietary restrictions—I'm lactose intolerant—it’s often tricky to find places where I can eat without worrying about hidden ingredients. Urban Forest Bistro, however, is a breath of fresh air.
The owner, who was both friendly and professional, took the time to help me select a muffin, a lemon blueberry vegan gluten-free muffin, and it was absolutely delicious—so good, in fact, that I ate it before even thinking about snapping a photo!
What I love about this bistro is its dedication to creating a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of dietary needs. The menu is full of options that are sensitive to food allergies and intolerances, which means I can dine worry-free. It's clear that the owner put thought into creating a place where people could enjoy delicious food and feel good afterward.
Even my boyfriend, who doesn’t have any dietary restrictions, gave the muffin a big thumbs up! If you're in the area and looking for a spot with fresh, allergen-friendly options, I highly recommend a visit to Urban Forest Bistro. It’s a rare gem where everyone can feel comfortable, enjoy great food, and leave happy!
BEST. BURGERS. EVER. PERIOD.
Okay, okay. Some context- I am a huge fan of out-of-the-ordinary burgers, as that’s pretty well how I make them at home. All the toppings, all the flavours- as messy as possible. I am a regular at Bin4 because it’s one place I know I can always get something different every time. But I hate to say it, this place is like Bin4 on steroids. MASSIVE burgers with such unique flavours you would never expect. Pineapple jam?? Thai basil mayo?? Are you kidding me??? Not to mention, the best gluten free buns I’ve ever had.
I told my boyfriend next time we go to the island, we’re driving all the way to Duncan just for these burgers. So dang good.
PS, this review is well overdue, I visited a few weeks ago while visiting town. So happy I found this place. Service is phenomenal too. You can tell they really care about what they do.
Fantastic! Food was fresh and delicious, everything was sparkling clean. We had the buffet which had lots of gluten free and dairy options. Highly recommend!
Gluten free household here! We've tried every gluten-free pizza in this town and hands down, this crust was so good, we worried we got the wrong pizza! Created our own BBQ chicken with that garlic pizza sauce ... speechless. Price comparable to anywhere else you'd get a dry, thin, from-frozen GF crust at $26 before taxes and delivery fees. I can only assume it was made from scratch in-house - doughy, soft, crispy, and holds shape even with loaded toppings. Only waited probably half an hour for it to arrive through Door Dash. Y'all doing the Lord's work for Duncan's gluten-sensitive! I'd give it 10 stars if I could - we'll be ordering again for sure!
Honestly nothing impressive. The food was okay, not bad but not great. We went because they have gluten free options (including fries), but the food itself was not that great. However, it is a decent option if you are gluten free or celiac and need somewhere to eat in Duncan
I ordered a perfectly created Stealhead burger on a Gluten Free bun( great tasting bun). I had the house salad with herbed oil vinaigrette. Our Waiter, Noah was fabulous. And, I am so thrilled that WS has so many Delicious GF options, wow!❤️
Food is amazing, it's all 100% gluten free/celiac safe, and tastes like authentic Mexican food! We've never had anything here that we haven't loved. The candied jalepenos are soooo good and not too spicy, and the quesabirria are to die for. I recommend them to everyone if we're ever talking about tacos.
Dinner was so good , delivery driver was super friendly and lovely . So impressed with the amount of gf and dairy free options . I called another restraunt locally to confirm there as said online dishes were gf and was told no they now use flour not chickpea flour as traditional . So could have had a really bad gluten poisoning if I did not confirm . Super happy with the amount of gf options , flavour was outstanding
I am totally and most completely impressed with the Thanksgiving dinner that The Dog house prepared. The meal was absolutely delicious. Everything was portioned nicely, and they were not cheap on gravy.
I can't wait to come back again to see how good a lot of the other meals are on the menu. I would definitely recommend this for anybody wanting some great quality food. The desserts are all made in-house and are absolutely amazing they have their own Baker, and the only desserts that are brought in from another location are gluten-free options that they offer. Kayla gave us a beyond expected service. Shortly after our meals were brought to us she checked in to find out if there was anything else that we needed. She was absolutely correct we needed some dipping sauce for the chicken, and water. Great job people, The Dog house is a smashing success for us.
We hired Taco Revolution to "cater" our wedding reception. Our guests all raved about how amazing the food was. I am celiac and the truck is 100% gluten free allowing me to feel completely safe. The truck arrived as scheduled and were set up no problem before we(bride and groom) arrived. Their communication via email prior to the wedding date was efficient and timely with clear concise answers. We added the watermelon and jicama salad to the 4 choices of tacos and it was a delicious addition. Our guests all felt completely fullfilled and even with 75 guests, the service was quick and efficient. We would fully recommend them to anyone for a fun private event.
I really wanted to like this place more, however, I gave 4 stars because my boyfriend who barely touches veggies actually really enjoyed his chicken katsu lunch plate and it is so rare for him to like whatever "heathy" food I'm eating. Unfortunately, my "salmon" (really it's steelhead trout) poke bowl was overwhelmingly saucy (and I LOVE sauce) to the point that I just really couldn't taste the flavours of anything else when I mixed it all together. I think it was a combination of the ponzu, pineapple jam and too many pickled things that made it just really sour and and not tasty.
Sadly, the two things that could have cut some of the overwhelming taste were the spicy mango sauce and avocado. The spicy mango sauce was good but couldn't overpower the other flavours and my avocado was super unripe and inedible.
However, I will say, their presentation was absolutely beautiful, and you can tell they use very high quality, fresh ingredients. I wasn't hopeful of finding many gluten free options on my visit to Duncan, so alas, I am happy to have eaten nonetheless.
I will add, when I ordered over the phone, the girl who answered definitely needs to be taught some customer service skills but I'm assuming she is just very young... She was very short with me and not overly polite. My boyfriend said the same when he went to pick it up.
I'm going to give these guys a second chance and try their burger place tomorrow, because anything is better than Whitespot and it looks dang good.
My favourite sushi restaurant in Duncan. Especially considering the amount of unique gluten free items. Never been disappointed; always find something new and delicious.
Dairy Queen ice cream cake have always been my favourite and I was sad when I was diagnosed celiac that I might not be able to have them anymore… but then I was thrilled to hear that they could custom make a cake if I ordered a couple days in advance that removed the crumb!! Yay! Thanks DQ!!
I am from out of town, visiting family. I ordered their gluten free pizza and I have to say, it is very good. I was pleasantly surprised. I have done a lot of research and experimenting for the best gluten free pizza crust, and this is by far the best pizzeria gf crust I have come across. I have 3 criteria - can be easily picked up without falling apart, is bendable like a regular pizza crust, and is light and airy. This definitely got 2 out of 3. The only crust I have had that has all three criteria is a recipe that I have created myself.
Thank you, Round About Pizza.
I went in with a large group to have the lunch buffet, but unfortunately was very limited in my options due to a gluten sensitivity. However! One of the servers came over with a menu and took the time to point out the things that were gluten free or that they could make gluten free with some adjustments. She answered all of my questions and even checked back in about one of the sauces. The food was amazing and the service was great. I will be coming back and bringing my family in the future.
Delicious food, great portions, excellent service, and many gluten free-ish options (if you can tolerate a soya sauce marinade)! We will certainly be back again!
Taylor made our experience awesome! Great server. Gluten free options can be done, however, they don't have a dedicated fryer. I tried one wing, lemon pepper, really good. Had the fish and yam chips, fish was grilled not battered. My husband and our daughter had the battered fish and chips and could not keep quiet about how tasty they were. Our son in law had wings and the stuffed potato poutine. He said it was good. Would highly recommend.
