Overpriced for small portions served with a side of attitude for free; rushed to order and felt unwelcoming and like we’d done something wrong before even speaking. Also says gluten free can be accommodated on a sign outside but when asked, we were told no (no further context or explanation) and felt like we couldn’t ask anything else.

Quirky place that sells second hand stuff and antiques as well as food and coffee. They have a vegan gluten free breakfast option of baked beans, tomato, hash brown, and patty that you can have any time of day. For non-vegans the bagel is really nice.

The rudest experience I’ve had in New Zealand. BF wanted a drink so headed there to order one. Unfortunately I am coeliac and so have to be very careful where I eat so sourced food from a safe eatery and came over to join him. The waiter came to bring his drink and said we couldn’t have food so I explained the situation. I asked if they served coeliac safe food and he said no. If it had been packed out and we were taking up a space (even though we were paying customers) I would have more understanding but the place was literally dead, we were the only ones there and we sat outside as well. The manager stormed out the second my bf finished his drink, snatching it off the table and berated us. I tried to explain I had an allergy but she refused to listen. She Said her staff had made a mistake and they do supply ‘coeliac safe food’ (clearly they do not as the staff was completely unaware) and told us to move along. Walking inside and calling names at us Based on other reviews this is not a one off experience. Take a few steps next door, to the Akaroa Fish & Chip shop the service is excellent, so friendly and kind, food is so good and theres a reason it’s packed!

We got back late from one tour and had to rush to another, but needed something to eat quickly in between. The manager squeezed us in even though they had another large group/party. Our food was out super fast, and it was AMAZING. I wish I could be eating their fried rice constantly for the rest of my life. The pad Thai was also incredible, and both were gluten free. Staff knowledgeable about GF/celiac. If we had stayed in Akaroa any longer, we would have eaten here for every meal.

My wife and love this place! The food was so good that we the second night we cancelled our booking at another restaurant and came back! The chef is inspired and the staff is great! If you like a bit of spice the goat curry is amazing, and when we mixed it with the pumpkin curry it was fantastic! Also, they are very gluten free friendly.
