I recently visited Pappadeaux’s in downtown Houston with high expectations, especially given my dietary restrictions (gluten-free). As a seafood restaurant, I anticipated a variety of options, but was disappointed to find only a small menu available for gluten-free diners. I chose the trout with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach, while my wife ordered roasted oysters, as they didn’t have Oysters Rockefeller. I was surprised that a seafood place didn’t offer Oysters Rockefeller—it's such a classic dish.
The service, however, was outstanding. The management and our server went above and beyond to ensure my dietary needs were accommodated, and I truly appreciated their efforts.
Unfortunately, the food arrived lukewarm, which led to us sending it back for reheating. After traveling all the way from Alabama to try Pappadeaux’s, I felt let down by the overall experience. While the service was top-notch (a solid 10 for effort), the food didn’t meet expectations, so I’d rate it a 5 due to my dietary limitations.
Overall, I’d give the experience a 6. Would I return? I’m not sure.
My family and I came on a Monday night, don’t worry there’s public parking all around. The atmosphere was nice very colorful Tex-Mex type of Vibe. The staff are very friendly, the time we arrived got seated right away and our Host Mark Anthony was super amazing . I myself ordered the shrimp tacos very delicious especially the green sauce that comes with it, ships and salsa can never go wrong, and the beans very tasty. It’s also Gluten-free friendly. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was the lateness of receiving our drinks/plates. Maybe they were short on staff but it did take awhile/slow. Overall very enjoyable.
Food was excellent. You order at the counter but there are lots of table to sit down and relax and doesn't feel like a fast food at all. Gluten-free menu so was awesome for my son who is celiac. Would definitely recommend
The owner was super nice. Great customer service, they explained the different sauces and how they could be used for the dish. The Magic idlis were very scrumptious and we'll seasoned and paired well with the more creamy sauce. The stuffed idlis were very delicious as well, with the curry inside I felt like I could eat them without sauce at all and the fact that both idlis were made with rice is fantastic! I started loving samosas because of whole foods but Flying Idlis took it to a whole new level. The Crepe was huge and we'll seasoned, honestly all the meals were huge and could have been eaten by themselves. The price point on these meals can not be beat in comparison to other offerings and the density of nutrition is astounding we were full for hours. They add an amazing Vegan and Gluten free option to the city that I have come to enjoy. 😀😋
