My friend & I were in Boston 2 nights ago and tried باب اليمن for the first time. We were absolutely blown away! I've eaten authentic, traditional food in the Middle East before, so I'm a bit critical when trying restaurants in the U.S. featuring food from the Arab World. I'm also gluten-free & vegetarian/vegan & there were still options for me to eat. All the waitstaff/servers were very helpful and respectful of my dietary needs. We were so in love with the food & the whole dining experience that we forgot to take pictures! The place is really lovely & they make you feel so welcome. My friend had the hummus with lamb & another dish, and I had the falafel & some other vegetarian sides - the mutabel was out-of-this-world - so creamy and smoky. And I'll need another page to talk about their signature Yemeni tomato-based hot sauce, which has a kick to it, but more than that, it's soooo flavorful! If they bottled it, I'd buy cases of it - it's that good :) The restaurant has two levels - the top floor has a lovely cushioned area where you can take your shoes off, kick back, relax, and enjoy mint tea (or a traditional milk tea) & dessert. The lower level is pretty cool, too, with Yemen scenery adding to the ambiance. And last but not least, a special shout-out to راشد (Ricky) who really went above & beyond! :) Although we are 2.5 hours from Boston - we can't wait to go back!
