Smashburger lovers, take note that Bae’s Burgers in downtown Mooresville is doing it right. With a simple menu and a consistent flow of customers, this spot proves that sometimes, less is more. Their smash patties are a well-balanced blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, each weighing in at 3.5 oz, ensuring that perfect crispy, caramelized skirt.
Every burger comes standard with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles and Bae sauce, between a Martin’s Potato Bun. If you’re looking for a little extra, premium add-ons include a fried egg, bacon, or a gluten-free bun swap, while toppings like lettuce, raw onions, and pickled jalapeños are free of charge. For beer drinkers, there’s a solid selection, eight craft beers in cans and six on tap.
The ordering process is straightforward: place your order at the counter, grab a number, and they’ll bring your food to the table or package it for takeout.
I went with a single Bae Burger, no extras, paired with a side of seasoned fries. At first, I thought they forgot the grilled onions, but after the first bite, I realized they were griddled into the patty itself is exactly how a proper smashburger should be done. The patty had an impressive lacy skirt, overflowing slightly past the bun, and it was cooked just right, not dry, not too thick, unlike some places in Charlotte that claim to do smash patties but miss the mark.
The seasoned fries were thick-cut, crisp, fresh, and hot, with not a single limp fry in the bunch.
If I ever find myself in Mooresville or craving an absolutely perfect smashburger, Bae’s will be my first stop.
