Had lunch at the Steak Barn at Balgove Larder and was slightly disappointed at the meat. Considering it is their speciality and the open fire pit smells absolutely amazing, I was expecting great things! The ribs were slightly dry and could've done with more seasoning and the ribeye seemed to lack flavour.
The onion rings on the other hand, were absolutely amazing! I'm not sure where they're finding onions the size of my head to make onion rings THAT big.. but that's besides the point.. the BATTER... it may be the beer they're using but the batter is light, it's crunchy and it's as close to batter perfection as I've had in a LONG time!
The actual larder store had me behaving like a kid in a candy store. everything from fresh meat and cheeses to cordials and alcohol, with most things sourced from Scotland. They even have a large selection of gluten free treats which I've not seem elsewhere, what's not to love?!
It's difficult to get to without your own transport, but well worth stopping in if you're in the area.
