Celebrated my wife's birthday here. Lovely pub/restaurant with traditional warmth and charm. Service was superb, very attentive and friendly. Menu was well thought out and was refreshing to see plenty of gluten free options including a chocolate brownie which made my daughters day as she is usually limited to ice cream from the dessert menu.
I had the fish and chips and it was beautiful, nice big piece of fresh fish with light and crunchy batter, mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce, a picked onion (worked really well, try it next time you go to the chippy) and the best chunky chips I've had in a long time. I did have food envy when my son's BBQ beef brisket with chorizo chunky chips arrived, will definitely be returning to try that one myself.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours spent at The Hamilton Russell and looking forward to my next visit with the family already, that's if I don't just nip in for a cheeky pint with a bowl of them chunky chips before then!!
