The vegan and gluten free options are incredible here. I highly recommend their famous vegan nachos, and the grilled corn is always juicy.

Mixed experience with the food... poor service. Mexican places have usually been good for the Gluten Free, but with a revamp to their menu, Hecho en Mexico have gone hard on the vegan/vegetarian side while eschewing a lot of gluten free options. We were told there are *no* GF options on their dessert menu, after a vanishingly-small number of mains options. How a *rice pudding* dish can end up with gluten in it is beyond my comprehension. My GF dining partner ordered the three types of taco that were marked as "GF". I ordered the stuffed jalapenos and the chicken burrito. I asked for all of it to come out at once so my dining partner wasn't sitting and waiting for me to eat the jalapenos. What happened was that my food was brought to the table with a message saying that the vegetable taco wasn't gluten free, which precipitated changing the order and me eating while she waited for her food. When the tacos did appear they were pretty meagre and unsatisfying. The burrito and the jalapenos were tasty (no complaints), however both came with a few of corn chips scattered around the plate... all were stale. Hecho en Mexico used to be a semi-regular place for us to go eat... maybe not anymore. Not just because of the indifferent service, but the menu just doesn't work for us anymore. Where there used to be a grilled chicken (GF) option, now it's battered. Disappointing.

Celiacs should check carefully. Items on the menu were mislabelled "Gluten Free". When food arrived, the chicken was breaded and unsafe to eat. Staff unaware of the problem until it was pointed-out. The same error on the online menu and on Menulog. Update 1 week later: review raised from 1/5 to 4/5 based on fast refund, genuine concern for the error and excellent service from staff at the Carnegie restaurant. As always, anyone with a significant allergy should check with the kitchen before ordering. That's on me.
