We recently revisited the Longwood Pub Restaurant in Nanaimo after a five-year absence. When we lived in Qualicum Beach, we would occasionally have lunch there while shopping in Nanaimo. The restaurant is centrally located on Turner Road in a busy strip mall; parking can be tight, but you can usually find space near Thrifty Foods or across the street. Now that we live in Victoria, we decided to see if, after all this time, their food still met the high standards we remember. I’ve never been to the pub, only to the restaurant, which is spacious yet cozy and tastefully decorated. I am not a meat-eater, but my husband loves their delicious hamburgers and great fries. Their menu offers a variety of soups, salads, hamburgers, pasta, as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options. The food is consistently good, the service is attentive and quick, portions are generous, prices are reasonable, the music is pleasant and unobtrusive, and the bathrooms are spotless. I'm not a beer expert, but the lager I tried seemed quite reasonable. I noticed they have a loyal, regular clientele, as our waiter addressed some guests by their first names and was hugged by a few. However, we won’t be going there as often as we used to, due to the long drive, but I recommend it wholeheartedly.
