The food here used to be outstanding, now it still better than average but the new management's penny pinching has affected the food. For example, the Fish Kew used to have a lot of leeks in it, now I could barely find any. The egg drop soup used to have small mushrooms which added a subtle flavor to the soup, now they just used the standard, cheaper, sliced button mushrooms. The lettuce wrap came with just 4 modest sized pieces of lettuce, when we asked for more lettuce, they brought out just one more small piece of lettuce and tried to charge us $1.50 extra. We made a reservation on Open Table and checked in when we arrived at the restaurant, but the restaurant reported that we did not show up. Apparently, they didn't want to pay Open Table for handling the reservation.
I can understand penny pinching if you are charging $15 for a main dish. But if you are charging $35 per dish, you need to be more generous, maintain high quality standards and make your customer feel welcome.
I've always found the service here to be cold and indifferent. Again, this might be less annoying in a low-priced, local restaurant. But if you go out of your way to travel to a more expensive, elegant looking restaurant, you expect to be greeted warmly and made to feel appreciated.
Despite the above failings, I will come back here again because the food is still very good and they have gluten free options. However, I feel sad that I have to lower my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars.
