South of Nick's San Clemente | Mexican Kitchen + Bar

Shane was soooo attentive and helpful. Walked us through the menu as it pertained to allergies and was constantly checking in with us throughout the meal. He was coming by to refill drinks and inform on the meal status quite often. All the food was delicious! The fish tacos were with blackened halibut and a treat. The carnitas were fork-tender and a very nice portion size. Chips and salsa were good too. They’re decently good with gluten and dairy sensitivities and my peanut allergy was a non-issue. The dining room was a bit loud but not intolerable. Everything was clean, the decor nice, and the bathrooms in good shape. Street parking.

We came here last night without reservations and were seated immediately. Our server, Viviana, was one of the best servers we’ve ever had. I am gluten free and she guided me through the menu and told me what I could or couldn’t have. I ordered the Mahi tacos and she had the chef do a lettuce wrap for me! It was excellent. We also had the flan which was out of this world. Wish we lived here because we would be here all the time!

We were searching for a place to stop and grab a quick bite on our way back to LA from Oceanside. We landed on South of Nick’s and we couldn’t have been happier. We sat in the bar at a high top booth and we had an incredible server, Monique (if I’m remembering correctly). She made us feel comfortable immediately and gave us some good feedback on our order. My partner has celiac and she took every precaution necessary, always a plus. We wish we planned to stay for a full meal but we are already planning our trip back. Guacamole and ahi tuna ceviche was delicious! 10/10
