Our reservation was at 8:15, we got there on time but we weren’t seated until 8:50 and then our first course didn’t come out until 9:15. So an hour delay that set us back on our plans for later that night. I made this reso 3 weeks in advance too, not sure why there was such a delay. We didn’t finish dining until 11:30, even when we had to ask for the last 3 courses to come at once so we’re not late to our next plan. The waiter was very kind and they gave us a complimentary Prosecco on the house for the delay. Also should mention it’s very kind of them to make gluten and pork free accommodations easily, really appreciate that from them. The servers were the saving grace that night.
The tasting menu itself was mediocre, and I’m saying this from a flavour profile perspective, there was nothing extravagant about the creations and no depth to the taste, with the exception of the small bites and lobster. The short ribs were delicious but it’s paired with broccoli and mashed potatoes, like I can find this anywhere in Toronto, can we atleast make it cooler than just that. Not to mention the same mashed potato pure that was used on at least 3/8 dishes. I was expecting a little more from a tasting menu at an almost $200 pp price point.
The environment was super pretty. The ambiance, not so much, really loud group of casuals next to us when we’re trying to have a nice quiet and intimate dinner, def not a romantic environment as I unfortunately understood it to be. The table setting was very cheap looking, the glass cups were extremely ugly I’m not sorry for being picky about this because this is all things the manager should consider when designing an experience. No table cloth on its cheap-looking wood table that’s wobbling around. That just ruined the fine dining aspect for me. Some of the tableware was VERYYY pretty and other times it looked like something from Walmart or Dollarama, like the water cups.
Overall would not recommend this tasting menu to my friends, I’ve seen WAYYY better at a cheaper rate such as DaNico.
