I had lunch at Topiary today, and honestly, it’s hard to fault. The setting is something special, tucked into the grounds of Newman’s Nursery, surrounded by history and greenery. Inside, it’s understated but elegant, with thoughtful table settings that immediately put you at ease and make you feel like you’re in for something good.
The menu reads like a love letter to food. Everything is made using locally sourced produce, and there’s not a processed ingredient in sight. You can taste the quality in every dish.
If you’ve got food allergies, you’re in excellent hands. The staff are switched on and the chef is more than happy to tweak things so you’re not left out.
Even the gluten-free table bread, grilled with infused oil was a bit of a revelation. It had the depth and chew of proper sourdough, which is no small feat.
I won’t single out any particular dish, because the menu shifts with the seasons, but every bite we had was a winner. There were actual sighs of pleasure at the table.
The service was sharp, the food was exceptional, and the whole experience left me wanting to come back before we’d even finished dessert. If you haven’t been, go. This place is a gem in the Tea Tree Gully foothills and absolutely worth the trip.
