What a lovely cafe! Warm welcome and lovely staff. Exceptional food - the cheese toastie with soup was delicious and the perfect comfort food after a lovely hike around Grasmere in the rain. We booked a table for 20.45 online arrived about twenty to and had a short wait while our table was prepared.The waitress came over and took our drinks order and presented with the menu so while having our drinks we ordered from the menu informing the server that my partner was gluten intolerant.
My partner ordered sea bass and as it says on the menu saute potatoes and I ordered the pork .After waiting half n hour we were asked if we required another drink as our meals were running late we ordered another drink which we received and also received three small triangles of bread and a pot of olive oil as a dip which was laughable as staff had already been told my partner was gluten intolerant.
When the meals finally arrived my partner was confronted with sea bass and what looked liked small boiled in their skin potatoes coated in butter not saute as described .My partner brought it up with the server as my partner is a qualified chef she described how they should be cooked as was told that's how we do it here
The cost just over 90 pounds this is not a go at your bistro it is a review of our experience I think a gesture of our second drinks being complimentary would have been better than 3 small pieces of bread and olive oil it was not our fault the food was late .We do except the venue was full but knowing Grasmere I would expect it's not the first time it's been full
