Very highly recommended. Overall, an excellent B&B in the centre of Ambleside with a café and its own bakery. It has a slightly quirky off-beat feel but it is high quality. All the staff were terrific. BUT beware of the being allocated an attic room where there are two low roof beams, a step and low archway from the room front door into the bedroom and a low ceiling as you exit the room to go down the stairs. However, we passed rooms on the lower floors and they looked fabulous.
Breakfast in the café next door was enormous with gluten avoiding options and great coffee! The bakery makes excellent bread and cakes, fresh every day. The bath buns are enormous and my non coeliac wife drooled!
As the gluten containing products and gluten free products are baked in the same bakery, the café quite correctly informs those of the Coeliac persuasion that while the gluten free products are made with non gluten ingredients, the bakery cannot guarantee that there is no cross contamination with gluten containing products. I had gluten free bread for breakfast and sampled the café’s gluten free falafel wrap and apple pie, all of which were excellent and I had no digestive problems. Those who are very sensitive with the Coeliac allergy might feel the need to avoid these gluten avoiding products.
Parking in front of the B&B is limited and difficult to access but there is plenty of designated off-street parking a couple of minutes away.
Delicious breakfast and excellent coffee! Stopping through Ambleside on our way to Penrith after some hiking and couldn't recommend Copper Pot enough! Suitable for the coffee snobs, a range of vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free options with plenty of delicious cakes. Reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff, we were made to feel very welcome immediately. Even though the menu states "We don't have a build your own menu option" staff were very happy to swap bread around, remove items, offer additional sauces etc. Plenty of dogs inside and out, we would definitely recommend (especially for anyone missing their dose of a Melbourne-like cafe) !
*One thing I would advise is arriving early on the weekend if you don't have a booking. We walked in as a group of two and were seated straight away but literally the last table free, 5 minutes after opening. Food service was quick though so people after us weren't waiting too long for a table.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was very good. The food came very quickly and was tasty. All of the food is freshly cooked. The price for the food is also very reasonable considering you're in a very touristy place. They also have a very good selection of gluten free options and the gluten free pizza is cooked from fresh as well. I would recommend coming to this restaurant earlier on in the evening as it can get very busy and they don't take reservations. I would definitely recommend going.
We came here on our first nights stay in Ambleside, and it turned out to be our favourite restaurant of the week!
The food was excellent, and the cocktails are also very good, particularly the margaritas.
They were very helpful with accommodating my gluten intolerance with a lot of gluten free options to chose from, and also dog friendly! Highly recommend.
Brilliant cafe to visit if you're ever in Grasmere! Stumbled across Harley's and wasn't sure what to expect but really pleased we did! Staff were extremely helpful, and there was a great selection of tea/coffee, beers/wines/spirits, hot food and cake.
They had the best selection of Gluten free cakes and puddings! The warmed up GF apple pie and ice-cream is excellent! Milkshakes looked great too!
They're dog friendly, so make sure to pop in if you're passing!
The food here is incredible, extremely welcoming atmosphere. Come in for a chat with the owner and find out where your food comes from :) (p.s if you’re GF or coeliac you’re gonna want to come visit, their entire menu is GF)
