Went to Nevada City for the last Victorian Christmas of the year and decided to stop by Heartwood Eatery for lunch. First of all, the place was packed - as expected for an event this big. The menu had a variety of options, including vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free meals. I had their heartwood bowl with salmon and sauerkraut, an almond butter toast with seasonal blackberry jam, and a latte. Everything tasted amazing and the presentation was a big bonus. Despite a big crowd, food came out pretty quickly. I will say it was a tad on the pricey side (I paid $41), but considering the big portion sizes and the quality of everything I did not mind. Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope to come back the next time I'm visiting Nevada City.
This is definitely a place to be careful of if you are gluten free.
Ordered two eggs my way, no toast because I'm gluten free. 20 minutes later my plate comes out with 2 pieces of toast. I sent it back saying the whole plate is contaminated, please start over. They did, it was reasonably quick and the manager came out to check if everything had been fixed. She even offered me GF toast (which I declined. My corn intolerance is kicking my butt recently)
So, if your gf due to celiac... stress the no toast due to allergy!
I've been shopping here since I moved to the area over a year ago, but have never eaten at the restaurant. I've gotten grab and go sandwiches and deli items; they are always tasty and fresh. We ate at the restaurant and got a burger and fries and a club sandwich with gluten free bread. They have a ton of GF options, just about everything on the menu. The meat is absolutely delicious, really high quality, and the fries are indeed fresh! Service was friendly and efficient. I honestly feel like for the quality-to-price value, you can't beat it. I'm sorry I didn't eat here earlier but I definitely will again!
