Alder’s Edible Mixtape – Hits, Harmonies, and a Show-Stopping Finale.. Dining at Alder inside Toronto’s Ace Hotel feels like stepping into a sleek boutique lounge that just gets it — polished but relaxed, stylish without screaming. This isn’t just a meal — it’s a tasting playlist, spinning through highs, surprises, and a killer encore. We opened with the Endive Salad — bitter and sharp in all the right places, like a well-placed opening track (3.5/5). Then came the Cucumber Salad, an unexpected standout: crisp, lively, and straight-up addictive (4.5/5). But the Hamachi? That’s the chart-topper — fresh, silky, with jalapeño and avocado harmonizing like seasoned pros (5/5). The Short Rib followed with slow-braised swagger — tender, thoughtfully composed, if slightly predictable (3.5/5). Then came dessert and, frankly, the whole room shifted. The Coconut Cream Pie is a rule-breaker — impossibly gluten-free and absolutely unforgettable (6/5). The Caramel Coppetta brought smoky, nutty depth and a touch of drama — the perfect closer before lights up (3.75/5). Cocktails kept the pace — the Riviera and a sharp Negroni hit the right chill, no notes. Attentive service, moody lighting, and a vibe-forward soundtrack made everything land smoother. Alder isn’t just playing along — it’s setting the tone. Confident, composed, and easily one of the leaders on the block. And that coconut pie? That’s how you close.

I don’t care how celiac you are, order the Bread & Butter, and suffer later. It’s well worth it.

10/10 all around. We reserved for the New Year’s Eve 3-course menu. We addressed a gluten allergy when we arrived and they made accommodations immediately. Truly was nice to see them care and find ways for us to enjoy despite it being a fixed menu.
