Ambiente Tapas Fossgate

Pleasant setting, if a little bit disjointed in terms of the decor. The food is good, but felt over fancy, like tapas that was trying to hard to be posh. They do gluten free and have the items containing gluten marked. They don't have the items fried in the same fryer as gluten containing items marked on either the menu or the allergen listing on the web version of the menu with allergen filtering. The staff are very good and knowledgeable, but you will have to get more details if you are coeliac. The staff are very good and attentive.

Ate here twice during a recent stay. Hands down best tapas I’ve had outside of Spain. Paella also fantastic. Friendly staff and great with dietary - my wife who is coeliac (no gluten) ate safely and they were knowledgeable about cross contamination risk. We were able to order sufficient and delicious dishes for two that would not risk contamination. Will dine again next time in York - wish they had a branch down in North London; we’d be in regularly!
