We ate at Ambrosia this week. The ambiance was good and our server was nice. However, we told them (Valentina) by email in advance that I have severe gluten intolerance, which they said they could accommodate. I ordered lobster, gluten free. When it arrived, it had a grain side which I was sure would be gluten free but upon taking a few bites, I quickly realized they had served me barley as one of the grains. We had the server check with the cook and the cook told the server he wasn’t sure if it was gluten free or not. Insert tears for me because I know this will mean a 3 day migraine attack. I asked to speak to the manager and explained the situation. He told me that the food is gluten free and “to not worry.” I asked what grains are in the dish and he did not know but just kept saying it was gluten free. Of course, I didn’t finish eating the side dish, but just those three bites set off a major migraine. My husband then emailed the restaurant again to tell them what happened and the manager, Fredrico, responded saying he stands by his previous statement that the food is gluten free and said maybe I ate some of my husband’s dish which wasn’t gluten free (which I did not). They don’t take allergies seriously and we are extremely disappointed in their lack of concern.
