The meat and alfajores are better than those in Uruguay, excellent service, large selection of gluten free options!
I have eaten at Asado del Sur 4 times with my Uruguayan parents and every time it was a hit! They came back from visiting family in Uruguay and Argentina 2 weeks ago and were so impressed by the blood sausage, chorizo argentino, and cordero. They swear the meat is better here than almost all of the restaurants in Punta del Este, Montevideo, or Buenos Aires.
The meat is always rich, fatty and never over-seasoned. Most dishes come with chimichuri if you want a little more flavor, and you can always request some if it doesn't. All that means your food pairs great with a nice cocktail like a caipirinha or a glass of wine.
The boneless ribeye was cooked exactly as we ordered on 3 separate occasions, each time it was tender enough to cut with a butter knife, and it comes with perfectly crispy fries that have a dedicated fryer (no gluten cross contamination!). The rack of lamb was fall off the bone tender on all 4 separate occasions and paired great with the mashed sweet potatoes. The skirt steak surprised my mom with how tender it was compared to the dish in Uruguay and came with perfectly salted, crispy sweet potatoes fries. The Spanish octopus is never over or undercooked and has a lighter richness thanks to the olive oil and has beautifully browned fingerling potatoes.
There are multiple gluten free desserts with a passion fruit panda cotta that was a great balance of sweet and tart, flan and decedant flour less chocolate torte. My dad and wife both were blown away by the alfajores. My dad couldn't think of an alfajore he had in Uruguay in the past 3 years that twas better.
The cocktail list has some Latin spins on staple drinks that were pleasant surprises. The only real criticism for the restaurant I have is that one of the times we went the drinks were a noticeably sweeter. I think it was an outlier and not a trend though.
They also have a nice outdoor space if you want to take some pictures or have a dinner for two. It's nestled between the side of the building and offers shade in the afternoon and evening with great photoshoot potential. They've maintained the brick walls and kept it well lit with zig-zagging string lights. My wife had some photos taken back there when we came for her birthday because of how nice it looks during sunset and evening.
Definitely recommend Asador del Sur if you have any interest in Central and South American meat dishes!
