Bar George

Cute date spot for breakfast, dinner or drinks. Gorgeous rooms and friendly staff. As someone with celiac, the options are limited but the choices are still delicious and well portioned. Cross contamination is a risk but the server took the time to validate what could be done with the proper precautions.

Bar George is set in a lovely building with kind hosting staff and refined atmosphere. The food is excellent, from starters to main courses - everything really was worth it in terms of menu items. The truffle risotto? Absolutely delicious. The table service, however, was middling. The server seemed very confused about what the kitchen did and did not have, and he did not know if something like risotto was gluten free. My friend and I were largely neglected by our server, who left us unattended for quite a long time until a kind bus boy finally inquired if we were done with our salad, but then moved a piece of bread I was eating to a different plate using his bare hands. I appreciated that he wanted to be sure I kept what I was eating, but that is a sanitation concern. He did not ask if I was finished eating the piece, just picked it up and dropped it on my dinner plate. Look, I don't want to be a whiner (and I know saying that affirms me as a whiner) about what was otherwise a really good experience, and perhaps my situation was an anomaly. I still recommend Bar George, but I don't think I'll be going again soon given the many excellent options in downtown Montreal.
