Basant is extraordinary, full stop. Modern Indian, you’ve got twists on old favorites, and dishes from different regions. The menu is conversant in all allergens, not just gluten, and the servers knew to ask about cross contamination, and guided me ably through the menu.⁣ ⁣ And there was lots to choose from! Basant chicken - deeply flavorful curry with layers of spice, great veggies. Lamb Rogan Josh - so savory - this will def be a winter favorite. Chana masala that was less tomato forward and all the better for a slow simmered umami onion vibe. ⁣ ⁣ And do not miss the cocktail / mocktail menu. I had a tequila / mango cocktail that was fresh and perfect for summer. And a Tamarind cocktail that I expect I will order on every visit - tart, a little spice from chili, very craveable.⁣ ⁣ The hospitality is so warm, and the owners and staff really ensure that you have a good meal. And as a celiac, I so appreciated that we could have a lot of things to share at the table that I could eat too!

Basant is the sleeper neighborhood zinger missing from all the "best of" lists. Casual, yet refined creative twists inspired by traditional Indian cuisine, they deliver generous servings of complex flavors made to be shared. Recent standouts for me have been: Fish Basant (still dreaming of this), Fried Chicken (the sauce is sooo good), Lamb Rogan Josh. One caveat—many of the dishes could use a bit more heat (i.e., spiciness); the spice level was just enough to notice in most spicy dishes, but still quite subtle. Great drinks as well. Very nice patio for the summer. And everyone is super friendly. Plus, they are very accommodating to dietary needs: gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu and all the servers have been very knowledgeable on other allergies such as dairy, soy, nuts, etc. Come hungry, or bring a big group, because you're going to want to try everything on the menu.
