Benny's Deli

Absolutely gutted with my experience here today. I am a relatively recently diagnosed coeliac. My partner and I fancied a lunch out so we chanced Benny's deli. Big mistake. When we entered the restaurant I asked if something could be made for me as I am a coeliac, I was told yes in a short/ borderline rude manner. We sat down, the soup is marked as gluten free so I asked for the soup and a gf sandwich. The waitress then said that she couldn't guarantee that cross contamination as "there are crumbs everywhere in the kitchen". I pointed out this is exactly what I meant when I asked if you could make something for a coeliac. She then started arguing with me that I must be very sensitive as plenty of coeliacs eat there with the cross contamination risk, to which I said coeliac disease isn't just a gluten intolerance, so I couldn't risk cross contamination. I would have rather been told that there was nothing suitable for me to eat than being argued with. I also wouldn't trust any of the gluten free things the shop sell now if it is made in the same kitchen as the waitress did point out that there was no separate area where things were prepared gluten free. Be warned fellow coeliacs.
