First of all the food was fantastic and it would have had a 5 star rating.
The issue is allergy training for the staff. I have a gluten allergy. I told the waiter this and he provided me with a gluten free menu. Great! Very accommodating. Come dessert time I asked about the ice cream. He told me vanilla and salted caramel. That's all he said. Great! I'll have a scoop of both.
Eating the ice cream, I take a bite of something that was a little crunchy. Odd but thought it was frozen pieces of caramel which is common. But I started to feel bloated...not a great sign. I asked the waiter about the ice cream, and this time he says that the salted caramel sometimes has pieces of pretzel in it. I was dumbfounded.
I explained to the waiter on the way out that I'm already feeling bloated and for the next week I will have abdominal pain, join pain, and be really uncomfortable, yes for a week...because he didn't take into account the allergy with the ice cream.
I am pretty relaxed with this type of thing normally. If I wasn't adamant about having the allergy, which admittedly I sometimes am not, then it's my fault and I accept it. But times when I explain the allergy, especially in a restaurant of this stature, I shouldn't have to confirm that ice cream is gluten free with the staff.
I dont blame the waiter 100% I blame the allergy training of the management. The wait staff needs to understand allergens, their effects, and what's in your food better.
Fyi, nothing was comped nor was/am I expecting it to be. I just don't want the next person with a food allergy that seems to be accommodated have an issue like mine.
