The Blackfriars restaurant in Newcastle is a truly fascinating place, located inside a well-preserved ancient monastery. The environment is refined, welcoming and warm.
The staff was always friendly, polite and attentive. At our table there were two small children (aged 3 and 5) and a person with celiac disease, and the service was impeccable with everyone. The children's menu is quite varied and allowed our children to easily choose what they liked.
Regarding celiac disease, all dishes can be customized to remove any contaminating ingredients. Furthermore, they brought us separate bread, butter and condiments, specially prepared for the celiac person. Each gluten-free dish is marked with a flag and served individually, avoiding any risk of cross-contamination.
The food is very good and tasty, with adequate portions. The menu is varied and offers both traditional English dishes and recipes with international influences. The prices are not low, but fully justified by the quality of the food and the excellent service. We went there for lunch and the experience was really pleasant.
