If you want a fancy dining experience, keep driving. However, if you want good down-home food with warm, friendly service, be sure to stop in at the Blue Hills Cafe. My wife and I stopped in on our way to Prescott Valley, with my mother-in-law, for breakfast and were not disappointed. Wanda was our server. She is a kind, responsive, and professional server. When my wife mentioned she has a gluten allergy, she offer a gluten-free English muffin, and stated that they would toast it on the flat-top instead of the toaster because of cross-contamination. This, of course, put my wife at ease, knowing they understood food safety as it relates to allergens. I ordered their chicken fried steak with hash browns, two eggs, and a biscuit with sausage gravy. I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. The steak was delicious! They cooked the hash browns to perfection, and they were not greasy. On our next trip to Prescott Valley, I'll order this again and start with the biscuit for sure. Their biscuits are the lightest and moistest biscuits I ever tasted. They are not the typical bone dry biscuits that need gravy in order to choke them down. When we return, I'll ask if I can order a half dozen to take back to Phoenix. This was our first occasion to eat at Blue Hills for breakfast. I have two recommendations. The first recommendation I could make for their menu would be to offer more in the way of southwest options to spice things up a bit, like chorizo, fresh spicy salsa, chili Colorado, besides your Ortega green chili (which I assume is out of a can). The second would be, offer quality steel-cut oats for your oatmeal instead of the quick instant oats that are slimy. My mother-in-law ordered your oatmeal. This, of course, is a business decision based on demand. Everything else on your menu represents a level of excellence. Your oatmeal should too. But again, this would be based on the demand for oatmeal, as making steal-cut oatmeal takes time (unless you make it overnight in a crock-pot). Steel-cut oats are rich and hearty, especially when you top them with fresh fruits and nuts. You can also increase the price point and the profit margin is crazy good as well for offering an elevated “gourmet” version, since steel-cut oats are very inexpensive and yield a lot of oatmeal per volume of raw oats. One thing patrons may notice is the steady stream of traffic in this restaurant. Good food and great service are why. While there, we noticed no staff just standing around. Everyone served the customers professionally and with a smile. We look forward to trying the lunch/dinner menu options on our next visit. Job well done!

Fortunate to find this awesome cafe while visiting Dewey with the fam yesterday! The restaurant has an awesome small town feel, but not outdated at all. It's everything a restaurant in a small town should be. The menu has plenty to choose from too, which is great for groups or families with different preferences. Three types of fries, normal, seasoned (waffle type) and country (thick potato slices - not wedges) - that's variety! Also, gluten free busks available. Between all of us I had all three, but if I had to pick one to recommend I would go with country because I haven't had those elsewhere. The food was great! Tenders were well made and cheeseburgers were both a favorite for the kids. The tuna melt was perfect, not overdressed tuna and crispy/toasty bread. We didn't get our server's name, but she was helpful and even mentioned which fries were gluten free without us asking when a gluten free bun was ordered. If owners read these reviews, it was a lady with glasses. The place has great food and great service, the best small town cafe/dinner I've been to. Will certainly be back.
