As a Celiac who travels a fair amount I know the risks of eating out. I ask a lot of questions and have to achieve a certain comfort level that the server and kitchen are knowledgeable and care that the food is safe before I eat there.
I felt confident when I ordered and even when I took the first big bite of my burger. I was wrong. It was the wrong bun. The kitchen didn't notice, the server didn't notice, only my daughter who also ordered a GF bun noticed.
As a result of that one bite I will now suffer several days of stomach pain, nausea, headache, fatigue, itchiness, brain fog and so on. It's not life threatening, but it's life altering.
The server apologized a half dozen times, but still charged me the full amount. That was disappointing.
So, the warning is to be sure to ask before you eat or maybe go somewhere else that is more careful and caring.
