Good food, lovely atmosphere and great awareness for coeliacs

This place really needs to take allergies seriously. I visited today and asked a staff member which cakes were gluten free. After consultation with, I assume the manager, I was told ' they all are'. On that basis I chose a cake. Some sixth sense prompted me to check when I returned to the table and saw the QR code linking to the allergen menu. Surprise surprise - not all the cakes were gluten free and the one I had chosen definitely wasn't. When brought to the attention of the staff I simply received a shoulder shrug and an 'oh' - no apology or any recognition of the seriousness of this mistake. The manager, who processed the refund offered no apology for his mistake and indeed was curt in the extreme as though it was my mistake, not his. I certainly won't be back and would suggest anybody having particular dietary requirements give this place a miss.

Me and my partner come in here very regularly because we just love it! He suffers from a gluten allergy and the menu offers so much for him, and the staff/managers have always been exceptionally accommodating and reassuring when it comes to ordering his food. Prices are a tad on the high side compared to a non-chain/local café but it's a premium we're willing to pay for such a fabulous place in Bognor.
