Breakwater Bistro. Bar

This used to be our favourite place to go in Victoria. We drive from Ladysmith to Victoria on Sunday mornings to visit a family member in a care home, so we’re ready for breakfast by the time we arrive! The menu changed making it less healthy and more mainstream, replacing healthy sides with tater tots (previously frozen deep fried potatoes). This made it not very appetizing for me because I am celiac. I talked to the server about possible substitutions but didn’t receive any. We also had to go search out the server to place our order and we weren’t in a hidden location such as the patio. Other people who came after us were eating their breakfast before we even ordered. It’s disappointing for us because we love the view and felt happy to have found a place we liked but will be searching for a new favourite. If you like mainstream you’d probably like it but we aren’t impressed anymore. I guess they got a new chef.

Went to Tasting Room downstairs because the Café upstairs is under renovation. There is no kitchen down there so a food truck parked outside called, the Kraken, provides the food menu. Doesn't sound promising, I know, but I'm here to say the gluten-free, food truck, halibut & chips is one of the best gluten free offerings I've had in Victoria, and also one of the most generous. Quite a unique recipe and taste. A walk on the Ogden Point breakwater before or after dinner is highly recommended.
