Can’t review on food as didn’t get to eat from there. No gluten free options available and was told by the staff that if you are looking for gluten free then there is nothing within the Caister-on-sea area for takeaways (chip shops) Not even an option was offered by the shop to call through in advance if gluten free was required. We went there as staying in the area whilst on holiday and saw a review that gluten free was offered to another person. This was not the case for us!

We tried the fish and chips here this afternoon. We weren't very impressed with either, especially as the chips were a bit soggy. My real problem was the gluten free version I had. They asked me on the phone if I was coeliac or gluten free. This was the first time I've ever been asked this. I'm gluten intolerant. In other words the clinical coeliac test comes up negative but I still have a quite uncomfortable reaction to gluten with the main effect being a large bloat that makes it difficult to breath while laying down. Depending on the timing I lose several hours sleep and often don't get to bed until the early hours. I've had this condition for about 24 years. I got a reaction today a few hours after eating, producing one of the larger bloats. I've had gluten free fish and chips from another shop in Caister and other shops elsewhere with no reaction at all so it's not fish and chips per se. To be honest I can't see the point in asking the coeliac/ gluten free question regardless of whether someone considers themselves gluten intolerant or coeliac when eating gluten would have some type of reaction, so both coeliac and the gluten intolerant should receive the same gluten free food when requested. There is no implied accusation here but somehow there must have been gluten in the meal because it was all I ate since lunchtime. Mistakes happen. No real harm done except a bit of discomfort and missed sleep but not something I would voluntarily repeat.
