I’d always swing by this CAVA when I’m in the area but today was the last day I’ll ever go to this location.
I have celiac disease. To put it into simple words I CANNOT have gluten and my food cannot be contaminated with the slightest crumb of gluten or it leaves me very sick for up to two weeks.
I asked the woman who was making my order to please change her gloves before making my order since they’ve been contaminated by gluten (pita bread, pita chips, etc.), she gladly did so.
I got my food and was on my way. I then open my bowl and find a pita chip in my bowl, so I turn back around to go back to CAVA and get it replaced.
Long story short she was arguing with me saying it’s just a small piece and didn’t understand what the issue was. I tried to make her understand what my disease is and how cross contamination makes me sick but she took it as me being stuck up. She finally said she’d remake it, mumbled something in Spanish in an angry tone to her coworker, and handed it back to me with an upset face like I inconvenienced her.
Staff needs to be educated on what celiac disease is because feeling like a burden on staff for their own mistakes isn’t what should be happening. Training on allergies and cross-contamination should be done so as well to avoid this.
This is very upsetting.
