Cafe St Honorė

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We had the new year set menu (at ca £100 a head) and it was probably on the slightly disappointing side of acceptable: smoked trout wasn’t what half of my party wanted but was probably better than they expected. Parsnip soup, we agreed, was too sweet and a little bland. The beef was OK but lacked depth of flavour or contrast (half my party left half the meat). The dessert was nice but those of us having the tart agreed that the (gluten-free option) melting pot looked nicer. £150/head all-in was just about acceptable because it was new year but I’ve often eaten much better food in Edinburgh for a lot less. Maybe, if I’m charitable, it was the set menu that let it down.

A great, authentic French bistro, brilliant atmosphere, friendly waiting staff and a great kitchen team. The standard of cooking is first class and the chef makes his own gluten free bread, which is delicious. Thoroughly recommended.
