Have been a Chipotle customer at several locations and found ourselves across town so decided to drop in. When I asked for my meal to be prepared gluten-free, the gal behind the counter appeared annoyed and inconvenienced. She asked with a sigh whether she needed to change out the spoons for the beans and rice and was not happy when I said yes. She then proceeded to minimize portion sizes dramatically, to less than half of what I have ever been served for the same menu item at every other Chipotle location I've ever dined at.
I was unprepared for this kind of retaliation for simply asking that my meal be prepared gluten-free with what I have come to expect as Chipotle's standard practices for gluten-free food prep. in order to prevent cross-contamimation. At all the other Chipotle locations, staff members change out the serving utensils and one even cheerfully and proudly told me "Chipotle takes gluten-free seriously" and then went about showing a newer staff member how to accommodate someone with gluten-free needs. Let's face it, most gluten-free people eat that way for medical reasons and it's not something we choose just to inconvenience food servers. Next time, I'd prefer not to have my tacos served skimpily with a side of malice.
