Celiacs beware! Last night, I ordered a gluten-free pasta takeaway. When I first saw it, I had doubts—it didn’t look gluten-free. Since I was in my pjs in the car, my friend went back to ask, and they assured her that as long as it was penne, it was gluten-free. Once we got home, I still felt uneasy, so I called the restaurant to confirm. I tried to explain that the pasta looked more like a thicker variety, like rigatoni, rather than penne, but the staff member assured me it was gluten-free. Sadly, I trusted them. By 2am, I was regretting that decision, as I was sick and throwing up. It’s incredibly frustrating, disappointing and dangerous that either the staff aren’t educated on what pasta is gluten free and what isn’t or this restaurant doesn’t know how to avoid heavy gluten contamination. I know you can never guarantee no cross contamination but this is first time this has happened to me.
