My mom is dying in a hospital from colon cancer (whole life as undiagnosed celiac). She's barely eating anything and in palliative care. She asked me if I could get her some sancocho (very popular Latin soup). I drove to Colombian Street Food as they're 100% GF place. I ordered one soup for me and one to go for her.
The Mexican girl in the front asked me how my day was going. I explained that I just needed a nice soup for Mom in hopes that she would eat something. She's lost a lot of weight and is all bones due to the cancer. She asked me if she could chew and I said not really. She asked me if she could cut up the soup meat and veggies in tiny pieces so she could eat it. How thoughtful!!!
When I got to the hospital and I opened the bag, she had packed up very nicely and even written "Mamita", Mommy in Spanish ❤️❤️
As you look to support restaurants, think of the mom and pop shops that work tirelessly to support people with allergies and medical issues and so thoughtful!
