Del Mar

This was such a bad brunch experience we left after one order of tapas. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES. Our server was very rude. He only acknowledged and spoke to my boyfriend. Even when I would flag him to the table, he would go straight to my boyfriend as if I did not exist. I'm allergic to gluten so when we ordered a spread (apparently a signature dish labeled as a "must try" on the menu), I asked for something other than bread to put it on. Most restaurants will offer something like carrot or celery sticks for spreads. Our server refused. I asked if the kitchen just had something like carrot or celery sticks to spread it on and he said if I wanted something like that I would have to order a salad (a $20 plate) and just pick out what I wanted for the spread. He was unwilling to make any accommodations. I asked if he could check with the kitchen and he walked away briefly but clearly did not go to the kitchen or management (we were outside and he did not even walk into the restaurant), then came back and said they couldn't. He then guessed about what may be gluten free on the menu but did not seem sure about any of it. He pointed to a few salads and said that was all I could order. It was so disappointing. When we realized I could barely eat anything, our server was rude, and no accommodations would be made for an allergy, we left. We were prepared to splurge on a nice brunch, but ended up getting cheap tacos at the Boardwalk instead. Honestly, we had a way better time, the people were nicer, and they were happy to make simply accommodations so I could eat. Definitely will not return to Del Mar.
