We made reservations ahead for Sunday brunch with the girls. This was my first visit at this location but my friends had been before and have always had a great experience.
The location is lovely. Right along the Ambleside waterfront. They offer patio and indoor seating.
It's COVID season and Earls provides hand sanitizer upon entry and there is a hand sanitizer station as you leave.
The menu is available online and they have scan QR codes affixed on the tables to make it easy to access the menu with your phone. I like that it reduces paper waste in printing menus and having to toss them after each use.
Our server was lovely and helpful and the overall service was excellent. Our drinks were offered top ups frequently, which I certainly appreciate. It was the hottest day for us in Vancouver and the refreshments and air conditioning in the restaurant were a blessing.
On this visit for drinks we ordered:
🍹 Green Juice (it was sweet and tangy and refreshing. Good if you are used to green juices. A bit of a shock to the palate if it's your first crack at such a healthy juice).
🍹 Mojito. Was very nice. Lots of ice. Nice honest shot. Minty. Refreshing. Couldn't have just one.
🍹 Cold coffee with a hit of Bailey and cream. We took the hot version and added it to a glass of ice. Was delightful.
Next is the food•
I ordered the Ahi Poke Bowl based on previous reviews. I can say this is definately one of my 2 favourite poke bowls I've had so far. It was delicious. You have the option of rice or salad and I opted for the rice and am so happy that I did. I wasn't able to finish the bowl as it was so filling but I gave it a good effort. It was delicious from the first bite to the last. I am not usually happy with sauces (as they often overpower a dish), but this was seasoned and sauced perfectly. The avocado was perfectly ripe, the mango diced nice and small. The tuna delicious. I will be back for this bowl for sure.
My GF ordered her go-to Chorizo Hash with Hollandaise Sauce. She has a gluten allergy and this is a safe dish for her. The hash was very good, but the Hollandaise was disappointing. It was bland and for the extra charge to add it to her meal the portion wasn't generous. If not for the Hollandaise she felt her meal would have been delightful.
My other GF tried something new. She went with the Lobster and Prawn Benny. She also found the Hollandaise disappointing, but it didn't stop there. The portion seemed small and it tasted bland and unseasoned. The natural flavours were not highlighted at all and it felt uninspired. We were most excited about this dish and felt let down.
Overall we had a good experience and will return, but won't likely order the Lobster Benny or anything with the Hollandaise. Hopefully, it was a one-off about those items, but not worth our money trying it again. Plus the menu has a great selection of options to explore.
Like I said, my Tuna Poke Bowl was fantastic, as were the drinks and the Hash. We had a good time and appreciate the service and the attention to detail in keeping the restaurant clean and safe for us to enjoy, especially in this strange pandemic season.
