While the food itself was amazing and I have no complaints there, I am concerned about the training of the staff regarding the knowledge of the menu and basic dietary restrictions. On the menu, there is a note stating that one could ask the server about gluten free options. I pointed to the note to my server and stated that I am gluten intolerant and asked what those options are. She responded, “What’s gluten? Is that the potato stuff? I’m just not into that so I don’t know.” Rather than feel like I had to explain what options I could eat to her, I simply chose something that I knew I could have. I felt like regardless of whether or not the server was knowledgeable about the effects of gluten on someone with an intolerance, she should at least be trained on the menu options. What began as a lovely experience became a situation wherein I was concerned for my health, especially as when I told her that gluten is wheat, she simply responded, “Just don’t eat the bread.” If there are no gluten free options, the menu ought to be revised to reflect this. If so, the servers should be trained on the menu.
