Fodder is one of those cute little cafés that catches your eye in the middle of Heathcote and absolutely rewards you for stepping inside. The menu is simple but surprisingly comprehensive, catering for all tastes and dietary needs without fuss. I went with the Pumpkin & Haloumi Fritters (vegetarian and gluten-free), and what a dish. Two perfectly poached eggs, creamy avocado, house-made relish, pepita seeds, snow pea tendrils, and the genius touch - thin slices of crisp apple. Everything was swirled together with a generous rim of pumpkin hummus, making each bite light, fresh, and beautifully balanced on the palate. A vanilla milkshake on the side hit the spot exactly as it should. By 11am on a Friday the place was buzzing, always a good sign. Dogs welcome, dine inside or out, and there’s excellent accessibility via the side entrance. Staff were exceptional: warm, attentive and genuinely proud of what they serve. The décor is delightful (see pics), especially the front room, which is downright inviting. I’ll definitely be back in winter to claim a spot by that fireplace.
