Waiter Chris made our party feel very patronized when we were trying to navigate an allergy.
One of our party had asked our waitress (not Chris) for a gluten free bun on her burger because of a gluten allergy, but the burger Chris brought her had a regular bun. She asked Chris if it were gluten free bun, and he said “No, I didn’t take your order. Did you ask for a gluten free bun?” He had an attitude right away, which was surprising and unnecessary. We said we’d asked for and needed a gluten free bun because of a gluten allergy, and he took the burger back to the kitchen.
We had a feeling they might just swap the buns on the burger, which would not be OK with a gluten allergy. When Chris brought back the meal, we asked if the kitchen had swapped the buns or if they had remade the whole burger. He said they could remake it if we want, and he took the meal back to the kitchen again, suggesting that they had just swapped the buns.
We decided that we didn’t want to stay. They had mishandled our party’s allergy twice now, and Chris was being rude to us. We flagged Chris down and told him we wanted to leave, so we asked to take our food to go and to cancel the gluten allergy meal. Chris told us something like “We’re already cooking your meal again, but if you want to go you can go.”
The kitchen manager came out and tried to reassure us, and he was nice about it, but we weren’t comfortable at that point, and we knew we wanted to leave.
Very disappointed with the service and handling from waiter Chris.
