Franco Manca Southfields

I visited recently and informed the server that I cannot eat gluten as I have coeliac disease, which I was told was not a problem although 100% non-contamination could not be guaranteed. As this is common, and as I'd eaten many times at FM without issue, I continued. A few minutes after being seated, however, the manager came to the table and stated (loudly): 'I don't feel comfortable serving you'. This drew significant attention from other diners. I politely explained that there was a better way to approach the situation, and the manager apologised while stating that they were very worried about legal implications and that 'flour is literally everywhere'. I was told 'you can risk it' and, on further enquiry, the manager confirmed that no reasonable steps could be taken to provide a gluten-free meal (e.g. using a dedicated peel, dish, or pan, as I understand that these are not stocked). I left humiliated and I will not be returning. Please support your staff with necessary training to manage dietary needs sensitively, and please do not offer a gluten-free option if you cannot do so safely.

It felt like a cosy family run business, lovely atmosphere,nothing to much trouble, gluten free options, the food was excellent and good value. Would definitely recommend
