Friends Bar Restaurant

Loved the vibe. Feels very "island" for this stretch of the passej. 1 liter hibiscus tea, bubble mango soda, smoothies--you can get a lot of hydration without alcohol. But the drinks are good too! Celiac-aware staff did a great job for us. Very, very relaxed attitude, but aware. Floor manager "Ellie" hustles all day! The food might not be gourmet, but it feels well prepared, and it's tasty.

Gluten free options are offered with a (gl) behind the dish. The salmon was supposed to be the one and it was ordered. In addition, we showed a MEDICAL PASSPORT stating that we REALLY get sick from gluten!! The first salmon was brought with the pizza held above it. That was the first alarm bell, so we sent it back. The boy serving did not like this and took it very personally. Then we were helped by another boy who assured us that the new 'freshly baked' salmon would be gluten free. We also got other fries that were supposedly baked separately. Then, just to be sure, we asked what was around the salmon, these were salt, pepper and onions, but we were assured that it was absolutely gluten free. Hesitantly, we took 1 bite of the 'freshly baked' lukewarm salmon? How fresh was that if it is served lukewarm? We deliberately waited 20 minutes before eating to wait for an allergic reaction. And yes... stomach ache... the salmon was then eaten by someone else. So long story short. This restaurant cannot serve gluten-free. The staff takes a tip or complaint personally and not businesslike (except for the 2nd waiter). So why a 2nd star? The rest of our group had a great meal. But this put a stamp on the evening for us.

Food was fine! Important for us because our daughter has to eat gluten-free, and that was well arranged here!
