Gardner Village

This year there are a lot more witches and decorations around the village, which is much appreciated. Last year felt like a waste of time going, maybe there are new owners who actually care about keeping up with the village. I do NOT recommend the bakery/cafe in the village. I walked in with my mother and two children, there is a digital menu on the wall. I told my children the choices as we were walking in and a worker told me I was wrong and the food choices were incorrect. After looking at both menus, it was confirmed they were the same. When we ordered, I asked for gluten free bread. The cashier told me it would be $1 extra. I said that was OK, I'm used to the upcharge. However, another worker walked up to the cashier and said they weren't charging extra for the GF because the pieces were smaller. The cashier argued and said that was wrong, and the worker simply had to tell her that was what she was told and to not charge....We got charged. After waiting approx. 15 minutes to receive our food, my mom was brought the wrong soup. When the correct soup was brought out, the bread was super crusty and hard - it had to be at least a day old. (The bread bowl with the incorrect soup was fresh and soft). My daughter then took a bite of her macaroni and cheese - the most basic children's food - and told me it was spicy. Both my mom and I took a bite and indeed. It was spicy, even for me. And I love spice. When I asked the worker about it, she simply said 'Yeah, it's got a kick to it'. WHAT???? You are knowingly making a child's dish spicy. We ended up not being able to eat the mac so we all shared with my daughter so we didn't have to purchase another meal. This experience lowered my expectations for the bakery and will absolutely not be going back. I would have asked for our money back for the entire meal, but that would be pointless. The cashier was such a penny pincher, she didn't even want to give us water cups because they were free. She was super grumpy about that request. Gardner Village - please just overhaul the bakery. Get rid of the main problem employees (feel free to email me and I'll describe them for ya) and lower your prices! I know it's supposed to be a boutique bakery, but over $40 for 2 sandwiches, soup, and spicy mac and cheese is absolutely ridiculous.

They do a really good job with gluten free food.
