Beautiful entrance and a lovely, medieval looking bar but very disappointing dining experience. My gluten free mum was very excited to have a fish and chips as most the menu was gluten free (yay!) yet when she then ordered was told it wasn’t available that day. Put on the spot to pick something else, she then tried to order the prawns - told not available again! Only inclined towards fish, the other option was a fish finger sandwich with gluten free bread - not the most exciting meal when you’ve gone out of your way to visit a historic restaurant on holiday so was extremely disappointing. If the menu is limited based on availability (we were there as it opened so not late in the day) then we should 100% be informed of the dishes not available from the get go! Especially a main dish like fish and chips. Staff were friendly but we weren’t exactly offered any apology or alternatives so just started our experience off very poorly! Drinks were great and the gluten free cheesecake did make my mum very happy so was grateful we finished off better than we started, but I would say it is expensive for what it is. A fish finger sandwich with crumbly bread and some chips is not worth £14 when the fish and chips is only a few quid more? Other than a nice looking front of house, there is nothing about the restaurant that would make me come back. Very disappointed and will not be a repeat diner.
